Ah, the last day of 2010. It was a good one. So simple and peaceful and perfect. Of course this is my opinion, but it was the kind of day that satisfies me completely. Ike spent the night last night and I woke up before him this morning. Thank the Lord cause I need my quiet coffee/computer/getting the day rolling psychically time. And I got to do all that.
And as I'm finishing up at my desk I hear a little voice say, "When I grow up I want to be a pizza man. I want to bake pizza all day."
Ummmm, no honey, let's think a little grander, k?
"Good morning Ikey. What did you say?"
"Nothing, Busha, I was just talking to myself."
And in your sleep, I hope.
Naw. He can be whatever he wants. He then told me he wanted to be an "A". Since he is learning to read and spell our conversations are often filled with this kind of guessing game.
"No Busha! Artist!"
I gave Shannon a call and asked if they'd like to go for an outing because we were just talking about how we all felt like it had been a pretty couped up week. The temperature was actually in the 50's today and most of last week's snow melted. Isaac's brother is visiting from Mexico and looking for adventures. So we all headed out to Lake Marmo at Morton's Arboretum. It was basically deserted and made for a playful yet peaceful walk around the lake. The air held this amazing mist, and the rain fell on and off.
Later we went out for a good meal and drove home. Everyone else headed to a friend's house for a small party but I chose to come home and do my own thing. My own quiet thing. When your dad was a cop, your first husband a cop and your second husband a musician you get kind of used to your own company on New Year's Eve. It's a good thing for me. Ringing in 2011 with a bubblebath, a good book (The Disappeared by Kim Echlin) and a good night's sleep after a perfect day.
See you all next year!
