I was out doing errands and getting my coffee, and Jesse's truck (which I borrowed from him to use for a day of dump runs, mind you) just took a sharp left, all on its own, into the parking lot of the pedicure place. I never thought a guy's truck would do that. So what was I to do but go inside and ask if they had an appointment. I mean, it found a parking space and everything. Lo and behold, before I knew it, there I was sitting in the massage chair with my eyes closed. Miracles do happen.
Soon a woman comes in and sits in the chair next to me. A beautiful woman, gorgeous actually, and brightly happy. She had a good feeling about her. We chatted a bit, and her 15 year old daughter took the chair on my other side. After about 20 minutes, the manicurist asks the woman in her broken English, "Can I ask you a question?"
"Sure," the woman answers.
"What happened to your leg?"
"I was in an accident when I was just a girl. I was electrocuted and lost both my leg and my arm."
She went on to explain how it happended and how her life has gone from there...marriage, children, etc. It was a very interesting conversation. After awhile, we all sat quietly enjoying our foot massages and I just had to stop and try to figure what was left lingering in everyone's mind. The woman, the daughter, the manicuritst's and mine. What would you have wondered? Are you philosophical or pragmatic?
OK, I'm sorry but I have to tell you where my thoughts went when she was done and the conversation was over. How was she charged? And I'm not being silly or disrespectful. If I were the manicurist, I would have really been struggling with that question.
